WATER QUALITY MONITORING

Examination of water quality is an important component of any biological study. There is no single or simple measure of water quality, and water is often tested for several characteristics, natural substances and contaminants. Water quality analyses fall into three broad categories:

Physical Characteristics—temperature, colour, suspended solids and turbidity

Chemical Characteristics—nutrients, minerals, metals, oxygen, organic compounds and a wide range of pollutants (i.e., pesticides, hydrocarbons, pharmaceuticals, PCBs)

Biological characteristics—bacteria, protozoan, parasites, algae, Invertebrates, plants and other biota.

INVASIVE SPECIES MONITORING

Invasive species can include plants, invertebrates, fish and other wildlife that create adverse affects within the habitats and regions they invade, causing economic, environmental or ecological impacts. Typical characteristics of invasive species that can make them dangerous to the environment in which they are introduced include: Fast growth, rapid reproduction, high dispersal ability, phenotypic plasticity (the ability to alter growth form to suit current conditions), and tolerance to wide range of conditions/

AAE Tech Services Inc. is experienced in assessing lakes, streams and rivers for invasive species, including monitoring studies to assess distribution of invasive species. We are able to assess the impacts of invasive species on natural aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems. Furthermore, it is our job and responsibility at AAE Tech Services Inc. to report any sightings of new invasive encounters to the appropriate government agencies.

BENTHIC MONITORING

Invertebrates comprise the largest percentage of species on Earth and serve critical roles in food webs and ecological systems. In aquatic systems, many lower trophic level organisms can also act as bioindicators. This includes benthic invertebrates, which can be used to assess water quality health. As different species have varying tolerances for water quality and pollution, they can be used as an indicator to assess poor or healthy water quality conditions.

At AAE Tech Services we have the knowledge and expertise necessary to sample and identify indicator species in the aquatic environment as well as to determine the complexity of a system based on the communities of invertebrates found within.

LINEAR PROJECTS

AAE has conducted several large-scale monitoring programs for linear infrastructure development and construction projects, including transmission lines, oil and gas pipelines and roadway construction. We are experienced in environmental mitigation planning, monitoring and inspection. We are committed to ensuring such construction projects proceed efficiently and with minimal environmental impact.
